INDIGENOUS FUNDAMENTALS & ALLYSHIP

The goal of this presentation is to empower individuals with the baseline knowledge and skills needed to participate in popular culture conversations, specifically related to Indigenous matters, both within and outside of the workplace. Participants will leave this session with an assured sense of correct terminology, and a better understanding of fundamental issues, such as systemic racism and intergenerational trauma, which may have blocked them from participating in past conversations on Indigenous topics. Participants will learn how valuable it is for them to have a voice through knowledge empowerment, and how these voices are needed now more than ever.

In this seminar we will address:

Terminology

Unceded and Traditional Territory

Residential Schools

Truth & Reconciliation

Systemic Racism

UNDRIP

Corporations Roles and Involvement

The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

While it is important to honor Indigenous Peoples all year, this workshop is especially relevant in June (in recognition of Canada’s holidays: Indigenous Heritage Month and Indigenous People’s Day), August (in recognition of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples), September (in recognition of Canada's holiday, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) October (in recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day), and November (in recognition of National Native American Heritage Month).
